The Original Menu
CHALLENGES
There were obviously a few issues with the old menu, primarily its readability. After speaking with customers I was able to identify a few key issues with the old menu based on their feedback.
HIERARCHY
Where do customers start? Hierarchy was needed to indicate where to look first, which options were entrees and which were sides.

READABILITY
Customers, especially those with low vision had challenges reading any of the menu. Text was too small and there was low contrast on important titles.

Brainstorming
Brainstorming ideas and structure. We wanted customers to be able to read left to right, scanning choices as they build their sandwich, instead of their eyes searching the entire menu.
I included several design elements like arrows, to give the menu a more dynamic "choose your own adventure" feel.
The owner wanted to make sure customers knew about vegan option, so I included a "V" symbol with a key clearly
I used a checkered border as a nod to the classic and iconic deli paper used to wrap each sandwich.
Iterations
I tried several color schemes, based on the original logo and aesthetic of the restaurant, all while communicating with the owner and manager for feedback and ideas. We eventually decided on a simple white background, prioritizing readability and simplicity for customers.
